Developmental Intercultural Competence:
Cultural Detective, Personal Leadership,
and the DMIS
A Series of Four Facilitated Online Learning Workshops
Online | Worldwide
We are very excited to announce an opportunity this spring to explore how you might combine the "best of" intercultural communication theory and practice into designs for improving performance, effectively and quickly! We are delighted to offer an incredible series of state-of-the-art online workshops — perhaps, a one-of-a-kind opportunity to examine the interface between CD, PL, and the DMIS.
Objectives
Learn how to challenge and support learners at different stages of intercultural development (as defined by the DMIS), using Cultural Detective® (CD) & Personal Leadership™ (PL) in combination.
The Four Workshops
- April 11: Fundamentals: Cultural Detective, Personal Leadership, and the Developmental Model of Intercultural Sensitivity
This online workshop is a required prerequisite for anyone wishing to attend any of the stage-specific workshops. It will include a brief overview of all three methods/models, as well as pre-reading for anyone who is not familiar with the DMIS, CD, or PL. - May 4: Understanding and Working Across Difference: Using CD and PL to Develop Learners in Ethnorelative Stages
This online workshop will include a short presentation on the ethnorelative stages of Acceptance and Adaptation and on what supports and challenges learners in these stages. Learners will work through a stage-specific critical incident using both the CD and PL methods, then summarize and apply their learning. - May 25: Delving Deeper into Difference: Using CD and PL to Develop Learners in the Transitional Stage
This online workshop will include a short presentation on the transitional stage of Minimization and on what supports and challenges learners in this stage. Learners will work through a stage-specific critical incident using both the CD and PL methods, then summarize and apply their learning. - June 22: Learning to See Difference and Then to See Commonalities: Using CD and PL to Develop Learners in Ethnocentric Stages (Denial/Defense)
This online workshop will include a short presentation on the ethnocentric stages of Denial and Defense and on what supports and challenges learners in these stages. Learners will work through a stage-specific critical incident using both the CD and PL methods, then summarize and apply their learning.
