PL work
Catherine Menyhart, MEd, has been learning from Personal Leadership since 2014, and facilitating since 2015. She has used PL to support intercultural initiatives within the field of international education, as well as in employee training and development programs.

Other work

Catherine is an educator and facilitator who has worked in international education and intercultural training for over 15 years. She provides facilitation, training and coaching to individuals, teams and learners of all ages, helping them develop intercultural competence, personal leadership and mindful communication skills. She is passionate about helping individuals better understand themselves and each other in order to become courageous catalysts for positive change in their communities.

Previously, as the Manager of Training and Development at the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE), Catherine managed learning and development programs for 800+ employees in over 40 countries, specializing in intercultural communication and leadership in the workplace. At CIEE, she developed an innovative, multi-year Employee Intercultural Development Program, which helped employees develop intercultural skills and practices in order to become a more inclusive organization and deliver the highest quality programs in international education and exchange.

From 2004 to 2006, she worked with U.S. university students at the CIEE Study Center in Dakar, Senegal, where she managed student orientations and supported students’ intercultural transitions, emotional well-being and academic success throughout their time in Dakar. Catherine has also taught French at Casco Bay High School, an Expeditionary Learning School in Portland, Maine.

Personal background
Born and raised in Michigan by a Midwestern father and British mother, Catherine has lived and traveled extensively in Europe, North America, and West Africa. She speaks French and intermediate Wolof.

Academic
Catherine received her BA in International Relations and French from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan. She holds a MSEd in Teaching and Learning from the University of Southern Maine in Portland, Maine. She has taught K-8 General Education, K-12 French, and is certified to teach English as a Second Language.

Other interests
Catherine loves exploring the natural world in all seasons through walking, running and other moving meditations. She practices yoga and has an insatiable curiosity for what lies around the next corner.
