PL work
Megumi Sugihara, PhD, has facilitated Personal Leadership seminars in higher education and for corporate clients since 2005.

Her current focus, however, is to offer PL to those working for social transformation and justice. She sees PL as the modus operandi of conscious activism. In fact, Megumi values PL most for the way it allows practitioners to choose to live in alignment with their higher-order vision.

Megumi can present PL in English or Japanese.

Other work
Megumi is particularly interested in global food justice, which is the place where local food movements and the work toward global food sovereignty meet. She is convinced that actions for social change must be firmly woven with contemplative practices. This is an ongoing practice for her as well, whether when keeping watchful eye on global food issues such as the proliferation of genetically modified organisms, or when engaging in the local food movement such as supporting small-scale organic farmers through community-supported agriculture.

Personal background
Originally from Tokyo, Japan, Megumi is a permanent resident of U.S.A. She has also lived and worked in a handful of places in Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Academic
Megumi received her doctorate and second master’s degree in Human Development at Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara, California. She also holds an MA in International Communication from American University in Washington, DC, and a BA in Political Science and International Relations from Stetson University in DeLand, Florida.

Other interests
Playing with her cat, Tenbu, is Megumi’s favorite way to relax. She also enjoys cooking, finding it both meditative and an expression of her creativity. She loves to spend time in her kitchen cooking up dishes inspired by the culinary cultures of the world while using (mostly) locally grown ingredients.
